The joke was on South Africa once again, and we’re all chuckling! A particularly sweet April Fools’ prank has come true to the delight of beauty and chocolate lovers everywhere.

South Africa (25 November 2024) — South Africans everywhere are positively chuckling at a certain April Fools’ prank that actually came true!

The 2024 April Fools run certainly saw some strong contenders this year for our country, but few caused a kind of national disappointment like the Woolies one did.

There was the Spur in the Kruger bit that the GTG team may or may not have fallen for, colourful baby animals spotted in the wild, and, of course, the Chuckles beauty line.

As for the latter, many South Africans ate the bit right up, fully believing that some fine day soon, they might get to smell just like their favourite snack or wear it as a lipstick—a sure way to disguise any evidence of being the guilty family member who ate the last choccies in the pack. “It’s just my lipstick!”

However, many South Africans were deeply disappointed when it turned out that the idea of Chuckles body lotion, creams and beauty products was nothing more than a cruel prank.

One user deemed it “the most hurtful April Fools” prank, and even expressed how they’d already made their husband pinky promise to gift her the goods.

Others took the joke on the chin, but didn’t shy away from expressing their wishes for the range to be considered. “I would have loved to smell like Chuckles while eating Chuckles too,” one user said.

But, perhaps the joke was on South Africa once again and the ‘woolies’ was certainly pulled over all our eyes.

In a twist of treats, W Beauty has officially announced the launch of a real Chuckles beauty line. The people have spoken, and the Chuckles gods have opened the floodgates with body scrubs and body butter (all of which are already sold out).

Needless to say, when enough South Africans stand behind something, even if it’s just a beauty line, things have a wonderful way of working out.

While we’re not sure how those of us trying to cut our sugar intake will get by with chocolatey scents wafting through the air, we do know that the idea of testing out a prank to see if it’ll stick is pretty ingenious!
