If you’re off to St Francis, JBay or in between for the holidays, don’t forget to pack your pool noodle and sunnies. The St Francis Flash Float has just shared an exciting update!

St Francis Bay, South Africa (05 November 2025) – Just before we ring in the new year, the canals of St Francis will once again fill up with unicorns, flamingos, seahorses and watermelons, as families make their way to the waters for the annual charity float.

It’s good fun. There’s no race and little fuss. It’s just a joy-filled float down the canals that brings everybody together to raise funds for a good cause. The gees is always strong – the event generally takes place between Christmas and New Year, when the Dezemba vibes are on full blast.

It started small, with three friends who needed a way to entertain their kids.

“We just wanted something for our children to do that was going to be slow, fun and a happy family day – and a way to generate some money for charity,” organisers shared with SABC. “We’re overwhelmed that a small idea became such a big thing…It’s just such a happy day for so many people.”

And because it’s the season of giving, proceeds raised from ticket sales go straight to local charities, township schools, animal welfare groups and sports and recreation facilities.

“We sell up to three and a half thousand tickets, and then we give the proceeds to charity…We try to uplift the area with the money we raise.”

Last year’s event pulled in around 4000 floaters and raised R400,000 for charity.

Behind the scenes, it takes a small army to make it happen safely. In previous events, the Rotary Club of St Francis has led the charge, joined by NSRI, Woodridge College & Preparatory lifeguards, the St Francis Paddling Club, Kouga Traffic Control, and many local volunteers.

This year’s float is planned for the 30th of December, with ticket sales starting earlier on in the month.
