Driven by love for their community, Devardo, Aqeel, and Mackenzie are proving that young leaders can spark big change by collecting warm clothing and essential supplies for Cape Flats families this winter.
Cape Town, South Africa (26 July 2026) – Strongly believing that you’re never too young to make a difference or inspire meaningful change, Devardo, Aqeel, and Mackenzie are the Gen A Changemakers stepping up to do just that!
Hailing from Lavender Hill, the trio pride themselves on being young leaders within the Earthchild Project, a Western Cape non-profit organisation offering complementary education to under-resourced schools with a focus on the environment, health, self-development and leadership.
As part of the Earthchild Project’s Young Leaders programme, Devardo, Aqeel, and Mackenzie have chosen to step up and respond to a need in their communities.

Recognising that many children are going to school without proper warm clothing, households are experiencing food insecurity, and many are facing winter without enough support, they have chosen to launch a winter fundraising campaign and an essential items collection drive to support families facing hardship across the Cape Flats.
“In many of our communities, families are struggling to afford basic necessities. This winter, we have decided to take action, partnering with local schools and community leaders to support families and children facing extremely difficult circumstances across the Cape Flats,” they said.
Their goal is to raise R30,000 in supermarket gift cards for families in need, while also collecting food, clothing, toiletries and other essentials from several schools for Heaven’s Nest Children’s Home.
“As young people growing up in these communities, we see the challenges many families face every day. Through this campaign, we hope to turn compassion into action and show how small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.”
Led entirely by young people who see the challenges around them and are choosing to act, it is hard not to be inspired by the compassion in action of these leaders.
