South Africa to celebrate #GivingTuesdaySA on 3 December joining millions around the world participating in the global generosity movement.
Johannesburg, South Africa – On 3 December 2019, #GivingTuesdaySA will inspire generosity across South Africa as part of the global #GivingTuesday movement. Giving Tuesday unleashes the power of people and organisations to transform their communities and their world, following the widely recognised shopping days, #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday.
#GivingTuesdaySA launched in 2018 with strategic partnerships with Brand South Africa, the Trevor Noah Foundation, and the Gates Foundation. All partners have a common goal to see a more just and generous world. Through digital campaigns and these partnerships, #GivingTuesdaySA reached over 4.4M people in 2018, most of whom participated in some way on the day.
“When so much attention is given to what makes us different, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and views together. Generosity is our individual power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value we can all act on” says #GivingTuesdaySA champion, Laura Parker.
The growth and diversity in campaigns this year is exciting. Four charities in Benoni have come together to raise money via Backabuddy for 400 children and families under the hashtag #BenoniCares.
For every special booked under their weekend sales, andBeyond, the luxury travel agency, is giving towards community projects in Botswana, India, and Chile, and offering customers a matching opportunity.
Rounda SA allows you to “round” your meal ticket at participating franchises (McDonald’s, Nando’s, and Steers) to donate R1 to charity.
The Trevor Noah Foundation is spearheading a collaborative “Giving Fair” at the WeWork office building in Rosebank, where people will be given many opportunities to give, and there is a collective benefit to all the NPOs participating.
“It’s exciting to see non-profits, individuals, and businesses come together to inspire giving in so many different, yet equally special ways,” says #GivingTuesdaySA champion, Sne Vilakazi.
The goal is to encourage all to get involved whether it’s helping out a neighbour, standing up for an issue or person you care about, or giving to a cause you care about, every act of generosity counts. The global Giving Tuesday movement raised $380M for critical causes around the world in 2018 in 24 hours. It also boasts 14.2 billion impressions on social media from people and organisations speaking up about the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved.
Those who are interested in participating with #GivingTuesdaySA can visit www.GivingTuesdaySA.org for more ideas. The movement is open-sourced and co-owned, so individuals, companies, and non-profits organizations are encouraged to use the resources provided to advance their cause or their community.
