Because I love you enough to share medical benefits…

Jeffreys Bay, South Africa (20 July 2026) – In South Africa, one of the most romantic things you can do is share a medical aid. Or perhaps, the lease for your Cape Town apartment…

A Jeffreys Bay eatery, Nina’s Real Food, was recently the backdrop for a proposal that had South Africans swooning and chortling at the same time.

Denton popped the question to his lady love, but it wasn’t just the ring that got people talking. Along with asking her to marry him, he also asked, ‘Will you join my medical aid?’

Cupid has clearly entered his responsible adult era!

It really is the ultimate love language in South Africa. Medical aid is one of the biggest monthly expenses many families face. So asking someone to join yours is saying, ‘I love you, your future and your GP check-ups.’

Nina’s Real Food shared the very sweet moment online, celebrating the happy couple and their South African proposal.

“Will you join my medical aid?” the eatery wrote. “This might just be the most South African proposal we’ve ever seen… and she said YES! Here’s to a lifetime of love, laughter, and happily ever after.”

It’s not the proposal you’d see in a movie, but it’s the one that makes all the sense. There were no fireworks and no photographer hiding in the bushes, but this proposal turned out to be arguably more romantic than a message written in the sky. Because roses wilt but medical aid membership lasts all year.
