Two JMPD officers tragically lost their lives while on duty this past week. To honour their memory, the community and their fellow officers came together.
Witkoppen Road in Fourways, Gauteng was partially closed off today to honour the memories of the two female JMPD officers‚ Winnie Mokgolo‚ 35‚ and Sophie Ngoasheng‚ 45, who tragically lost their lives while on duty at a standard roadblock.
The road was partially closed to hold a ceremony for the two officers and to lay flowers at the site of the accident.
The officers were serving the community by performing a roadblock and the fact that their lives were taken by a drunk-driver only hits home even harder that people should be responsible while out on the roads.
Over 100 officers and many community members stood on the roadside and paid their respects to the fallen officers. Flowers were placed down. The Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, visited both families to pay his respects and thank them for their service. The JMPD Brass Band played a song in memory as everyone paid their final respects.
Road users who had been through the roadblock before the accident have come forward to comment on the incredible women and how they did their jobs diligently and with the utmost pride.
