We love to see one of our own winning! From the girl who found company in radio conversations growing up to the sports presenter now sharing her voice with listeners across South Africa, Karabo Peter – one of our very own ‘Goodies’ – is living a bold dream she dared to chase.
Johannesburg, South Africa (04 August 2026) – Each of us is born with a dream, passion, or heart-pull. For Karabo Peter, hers has always been rooted in a love for storytelling and sport, shaped at home during her early years of listening to the radio as a child.
Whether it was listening to her favourite station during morning drives to school with her mom or having a show play in the background while cleaning the house on weekends, radio was always nearby, and her love for it grew naturally.
“Radio somewhat raised me. It is a medium that became part of my everyday life. The presenters became familiar to us, and I looked forward to hearing what topics they would be speaking about. The conversations kept us company,” Karabo tells us.
Those seeds grew into a career passion, which saw her study journalism after school, and her journey has since taken a progressive path. With a background spanning broadcasting, journalism, and digital media, Karabo has built her career at the intersection of sport and storytelling. She began her broadcasting journey in community radio as a sports reporter before freelancing for YFM and later joining VOW 88.1 as a sports anchor on the station’s drive show, where she stayed for two years.
As of this week, she has officially joined Jacaranda FM as the new sports presenter for its award-winning afternoon drive show, ‘The Drive with Rob & Roz’.
On Monday, she took the mic alongside Rozanne McKenzie and Rob Forbes to report on all things trending in sport – a nerve-wracking experience that marked the beginning of an exciting and affirming chapter.
“I was very excited to be on a new platform and to be a sports anchor on a commercial radio station. It’s something I’ve been working towards since 2022, because that’s when I started radio at community and campus level. So to see it materialise into a space like Jacaranda FM is just mind-blowing.”
And if that’s not impressive enough, Karabo is also one of our very own ‘Goodies’. As a reporter for Good Things Guy, she brings her storytelling skills to stories that highlight positive change and the people making a difference in South Africa.
“Being on a feel-good radio station and writing for South Africa’s number one good news publication just makes sense for me. Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about telling stories that inspire, celebrate communities, and highlight the good happening around us, so joining a team that shares those values feels like a natural fit.”
From the young girl who tuned into radio every day, before she even knew how it would shape the path she would one day follow, to the sports anchor whose voice is now part of the everyday lives of South Africans, there is no denying that younger Karabo is beaming with pride.
“My younger self would be comforted to know that her aspirations weren’t far from reach; that Karabo today keeps showing up, things are working out, and the dream is blossoming beautifully.”
Listeners can catch Karabo Peter on The Drive with Rob & Roz, weekdays from 16:00 to 19:00 on Jacaranda FM.
