The Kings Beach lifesaver returns to the Commonwealth stage with a journey shaped by growth, dedication and purpose.

Glasgow, Scotland (31 July 2026) – Some inspirational stories are coming from the Commonwealth Games and for Kendra Begley, representing South Africa is about more than stepping onto the competition stage in the green and gold.

It is a reminder of the hard work that brought her there, the people who have supported her journey and the responsibility that comes with being part of a community dedicated to helping keep others safe in and around the water.

Kendra, who represents Kings Beach Lifesaving Club, will wear the Protea for the second time after being selected to compete at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships.

She has always been dedicated to the craft; whether she is training in the pool or taking part in activities on the beach, Kendra is always looking for opportunities to improve, set new goals and inspire those around her through her commitment and work ethic.

“Wearing the Protea reminds me of the hard work that got me here and the people who have supported me along the way,” Kendra said.

“It motivates me to keep pushing myself, enjoy every moment and make my country proud.”

While representing South Africa is a major milestone, Kendra’s story reflects the values at the heart of the lifesaving community.

Lifesaving South Africa plays an important role in helping prevent drownings and promoting water safety across the country. Its members are not only trained to perform at a high level but also contribute their time and skills to protecting others and supporting safer communities.

For Kendra and many other young lifesavers, the work extends beyond the pool or beach. It is about service and responsibility.

As Kendra prepares to represent South Africa once again, she does so as more than a competitor. She is also a volunteer, a role model and part of a wider community working to make a difference.

With the support of her club, teammates and those who have helped shape her journey, Kendra is ready to take on her next challenge.
