The AACL Johannesburg team have worked with Hero in My Hood to create educational materials for primary school children.

Johannesburg, South Africa (08 April 2024) – The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) has teamed up with Hero In My Hood to share new educational material with the primary schools the AACL works with. The fun but educational activities include a colouring in page and a word search.

The team at AACL Johannesburg are planning to distribute the educational materials to schools within their region.

“The AACL Johannesburg is very proud to announce the launch of new education material for Primary Schools in Gauteng.

Primary Schools will in due course receive their beautiful full-colour, A3 size copies of the new “Adopt me Please!” adoption poster and accompanying activity/worksheets, absolutely free of charge. These will look gorgeous in classrooms and can be incorporated into lessons for information, activities, and discussions.

The foundation phase especially, will benefit by incorporating the materials into their animal themed lesson plans.”

Working with schools helps educate children from young ages to keep animal welfare front of mind and to practice good animal care practices.

The educational materials were created by Hero in my Hood. The organisation was founded to help teach lessons while keeping things fun. Hero in my Hood was founded in 2016 by Mandy Lomberg and Kate Boyes.

The organisation creates the fun activity pages for children aged 6 to 12 years. Characters Jongi, Thandi and their friends are illustrated in activity form on heroic adventures to learn important life lessons.

Each activity sheet is dedicated to social issues, and by handing the sheets out, they help raise awareness for issues that affect those areas.

“These materials form part of the AACL Johannesburg’s Humane Education Programme which aims to educate pet owners on responsible pet care, animal welfare issues and to promote the humane treatment of all animals.

The AACL Johannesburg Education Officer, Johann Steenkamp, will welcome an invitation to visit your school to present the responsible pet care programme. Please contact him on 011-435-0672 / educate@aacl-jhbnb.co.za
