An art fair in Kommetjie is uniting Deep South creatives. But community upliftment is the real muse behind the magic:

Kommetjie, South Africa (14 March 2024) — If you’re a Kommetjie local or simply someone who never shies away from a trip to the surfer’s paradise, you might be keen to learn that there’s a special affair on the cards for the Deep South.

Disguised as an art fair, Vision 24 is all about upliftment through creativity. On 22 and 21 March, Generations School’s campus will transform into a creative oasis where poetry, pottery, art exhibitions and live performances will all take centre stage, as organised by Susan Proctor Hume—the creative mind behind SPH Fine Art Fairs & Events and the Kommetjie Fine Art Gallery.

Entrance is entirely free, but portions of the profits made from other parts of the event will contribute to  upliftment initiatives, including a bursary to the Generations School Fund! Vision 24 has also teamed up with Tears Animal Rescue and 1 Kennel at a Time, Ocean View Public Library as well as local art institutions.

Spotlighting the important community efforts the Ocean View Public Library makes possible, is just one of the many ways the Art Fair hopes to remind visitors of the power creativity has when it comes to community.

“Peter Clarke Art Centre, represented by Fabian Hartzenberg, provides art lessons at this library as well as a number of other satellite centres around the Western Cape. In this era, libraries have become critical to the wellbeing of society,” says Wytske van der Meulen who is proudly representing Ocean View with free clay classes and art classes on both days.

“The Ocean View Library is immaculate and caters to everyone; they even have a section where a parent can borrow toys for their children, and exchange those toys regularly,” Wytske adds.

On offer at the event are a score of creative events, including a pottery workshop for 7-13 year olds, a fashion show curated by Liberty Nene, art exhibitions that will feature scores of artists from well established painters and photographers to emerging Deep South talent. Non-Profits like Kunye Art Foundation will also have their work displayed alongside the Masiphumelele Creative Hub!
