The search is on for artists who’d love to lend their brushes to an exciting art project that hopes to spruce up an animal shelter:
Zeerust, South Africa (12 January 2025) — Artists are being called on to whip out their brushes because an exciting opportunity to spruce up a shelter has come about!
The kind of difference a fresh coat of paint, some creative touches and helpings of colour can make is quite remarkable. You’ve seen it in your neighbourhood; that abandoned building has suddenly come to life all thanks to a mural. And you’ve seen it in restaurants; that dreary corner by the coffee machine suddenly looks like it belongs in a museum. The idea of giving the dull a makeover may be an aesthetic choice on the surface. But in many ways, it’s a passport to so much more than just a new look.
In bigger community projects, improving the aesthetic value of a public space has been linked to pride, a desire to keep the area clean and to protect it. For charities and shelters, an artistic makeover can help attract more potential adopters, completely revamping the energy of those who work there and those who pop in.
The Cat Angel Refuge are looking for creatives to help them get their art on. Based in Zeerust, the charity is a sanctuary for many vulnerable cats and dogs.
In December, the charity saw an increase in the number of intakes and dealt with the influx like champions. Now, they’re hoping to have a creative start to the new year with help from talented people.
The mission is to spruce up both the internal and external walls, and creatives who have a talent for graffiti art or mural-making are encouraged to join the effort.
“This is a pro bono opportunity to showcase your skills, gain exposure and make a meaningful contribution to a cause that helps animals in need,” Cat Angel Refuge said.
“Whether you’re an experienced artist or just starting out, we’d be thrilled to collaborate with you!”
