Over the past 30 years, Casual Day has raised an incredible R455 Million towards the projects run by the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities. Now the hope is to sell 3 million stickers in 2024!

South Africa (02 August 2024) – Casual Day has been giving us a day off from wearing school uniforms for 30 years this year! And while many of us may not be in school anymore, there is nothing better than a day wearing our most casual and comfy clothes in the name of charity. This year, Casual Day will be on the 6th of September, 2024!

The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) is the non-profit behind the day and it plays an integral role in shaping South Africa into a country where persons with disabilities have access to equal opportunities and rights. They established the major fundraising day in 1994, as a way to further support the projects that uplift persons with disabilities.

“For eight and a half decades, we run awareness programmes, influence government policies, promote physical and social access, and facilitate economic participation for and with persons with disabilities.”

Casual Day, the NCPD’s flagship project, provides much-needed funds for the work of hundreds of schools and organisations in the disability sector, including nine Provincial Associations of and for Persons with Disabilities (APDs) and nationwide projects and programmes. These projects and programmes encompass Workplace and Entrepreneurial Projects/Programs, Universal Design and Access Projects, Assistive Devises, and Gender-Based Violence Awareness and Training Programs for women and girls with disabilities.

This year’s theme for Casual Day is “I See You!”. Aside from purchasing the Casual Day sticker, which can be a physical one or a personalised digital version, to take part, one can also purchase merchandise which showcases this year’s theme. The sale of these items goes towards the overall fundraising of the day and is used to boost all the projects and programmes run by the NCPD.

“The 30th anniversary of Casual Day is an opportunity to reflect, appreciate and focus on shaping a society where inclusivity is not just a concept, but is a lived reality. The theme this year recognises the inherent worth, dignity, and uniqueness of all people.” – Therina Wentzel, National Director at the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD)
