His name is Austin Macaskill and he’s exactly as cool as you imagined.

“It’s my biggest privilege to tell these stories,” Austin says. “I’m obsessed with stories, especially the ones that make us proud to be South African.”
And he’s not exaggerating. Cool Story Bru! has become one of the fastest-growing digital storytelling platforms in the country. With over 610,000 followers and 23 million likes on TikTok alone, Austin’s content has become a sort of cultural glue, reminding us of our shared history, our hidden heroes and those little moments that make life in South Africa so rich.
From forgotten historical gems to news of everyday wins, he’s telling the stories you didn’t know you needed.
“South Africa is the best audience. I am so grateful to everyone who watches the videos. It’s surreal sometimes that so many people resonate with the content and enjoy it. That’s why I do it,” Austin says with quiet conviction.
And honestly? That’s why we do what we do too.
