Charities in South Africa are really starting to feel the pinch as costs rise; proudly South African crowdfunding platform BackaBuddy has dropped its fees for registered NPOs using the site.

South Africa (29 August 2023) – Crowdfunding is a great way for organisations to raise funds for specific projects or needs, as well as for funding overall. It is a vital source of income for these organisations. In some good news, local platform BackaBuddy announced recently that they would have a 0% fee for registered non-profit organisations; a big win for charities who need it most!

This change has been implemented effective immediately and NPOs need only register or update their registration to have this fee structure applied.

The crowdfunding site does stress that this only applies to their fee structures and that fees for payment gateways, which include PayPal, SnapScan, Instant EFT, and credit cards, would still apply.

Organisations are already speaking out about the shift in their favour. Cami Palomo, Founder of the Avela Foundation, shared her thoughts on the matter.

“It is very appealing for us to work with a 0% platform fee crowdfunding organisation like BackaBuddy. This approach ensures that the NGOs receive the full value of each donation, enabling us to allocate resources more effectively toward our causes. Donors, by giving a tip demonstrate their commitment to the NGO’s mission and contribute not only to the cause itself but also to the organisation’s operational sustainability.

The Avela Foundation is a very small NGO and having the total commitment from our donors is huge. This model fosters a strong sense of collaboration and transparency as well” – says Cami Palomo, Founder of the Avela Foundation, an organisation that advocates for burn survivors.

Without the support of charities, many communities would suffer greatly. The work being done in South Africa by non-profit organisations changes lives! Supporting them is vital to society as a whole.

Since its founding, the BackaBuddy platform has aided in funds raised for over 9000 charities with funds exceeding R445 million.
