The South African Culinary Team flew the flag high in Germany and will be bringing home three medals this weekend at OR Tambo!
Stuttgart, Germany (20 February 2020) – South Africa’s Culinary Olympic team (Team SA) set their sights on making South Africans proud and bringing home a gold medal. The team are currently at the 25th IKA Culinary Olympics in Stuttgart, Germany, which ran from 14 to 19 February.
They are done with the Culinary Olympics now and spending a few days exploring before heading home this weekend.
The team will be bringing home three bronze medals. The first earned by Chef Nicolas van der Walt for his sugar workpiece “King for a Day”. The beautiful piece features South Africas glorious king protea. The sugar showpiece was an individual entry. It is stunning, if you missed it, take a look here.
Culinary Team SA earned their other bronzes for the IKA Chefs Table event and the Restaurant of Nations event. They had to cook a three-course meal for 110 people at the Restaurant of Nations event; this included the ten judges.
We are so proud of our chefs and hope you will join us in celebrating their success! If you would like to give them a proudly South African welcome, they will be arriving home this Saturday, 22 February at 8h45AM at OR Tambo Arrivals Terminal A.
Let us know if you will be waving the flag high during their homecoming?
