Google Translate

Google Translate can now accurately translate Xhosa and Zulu thanks to a new neural translation machine. Meaning translations will be more accurate!

Xhosa and Zulu have always been options on the list of translations but it wasn’t always accurate like the spoken language. Now they have been updated in a functional way thanks to a new Artificial Intelligence machine. There will be no more moments lost in translation!

The neural translation machine was introduced in 2016 and has since made massive advances in the online translation field. Since it has been successful it will be implemented in correcting the translations of Xhosa and Zulu.

With neural translation, the service learns the language from hundreds of thousands of examples and builds a “concept space” – an intermediary language the software uses to translate phrases from one language to another.

The translation service has also started translating one language directly to the other. In the past the language would first be converted to English and then to another language.

Google Neural Machine Translation is now capable of translating whole sentences at a time, rather than just piece by piece.

“Previous translations were based on programming an understanding of the grammar of a language into the translator.” – Blaise Aguera y Arcas, Machine Intelligence division at Google

Learning languages will be easier and more accurate now thanks to this new technology. The future is bright and filled with endless possibilities! We look forward to how Google Translate grows and connects the world.
