While the world bustles with holiday cheer, iThemba Lethu Durban is spreading a different kind of magic – the magic of a mother’s love. They’re ensuring no tiny newborn gets left out of the warmth of the season by making sure they have the most precious gift of all: breast milk.

Durban, South Africa (10 December 2024) – With many preparations underway for Christmas celebrations, giftings and everything in between, iThemba Lethu Durban is making sure little newborn babies don’t get left out of the mix.

Breast milk is the gold standard for infant nutrition. For babies who can’t be breastfed directly, donated breast milk offers a lifeline, providing essential nutrients and antibodies.

The organisation, which seeks to make a positive in the lives of vulnerable children and adults, is rallying its troops to make sure babies have the breastmilk they need as the year comes to a close.

The Breastmilk Bank at iThemba Lethu affords breastfeeding mothers the opportunity to donate their excess breast milk to vulnerable, abandoned and orphaned babies in the iThemba Lethu Transition Homes in Durban.

“Our donated breastmilk is pure magic for vulnerable babies, offering unmatched nutrition, immunity, and care.

“Moms generously express, freeze, and donate this liquid gold, which is carefully transported in cooler boxes to keep it safe and fresh,” shares IThemba Lethu.

A huge thank you goes to the selfless moms and dedicated volunteers who make this Milk of Love initiative possible.

And if this initiative has struck a chord with you, perhaps you may consider spreading a different kind of cheer this Christmas.

“We’re calling for more donor moms to join us and help keep the milk flowing during this busy season when many moms are away,” the organisation appeals.
