It's Showtime Again, As The Sandton City Drive-In Returns!!!

Sandton City is proud to present The City Drive-In, powered by Ster-Kinekor!

 

Johannesburg, South Africa (05 August  2021) – Launched on Friday, 4 June 2021, and blending the thrill of going out with the comfort of staying in; The City Drive-In is a timeous tribute to the nostalgic film-viewing format, which peaked in global popularity between the 1940s and 1960s.

Following the easing of COVID-19 Lockdown regulations to level 3, the wait is over, and The City Drive-In will be reopening on Thursday, 5 August 2021.

The latest addition to Sandton City’s extensive entertainment offering, patrons will be able to take in the BIGGEST blockbusters on the BIG screen, every Thursday – Sunday, until 29 August 2021. The City Drive-In is located on the rooftop parking and can be easily accessed off Sandton Drive, offering individuals and families an opportunity to enjoy big-screen entertainment safely.

“Sandton City is thrilled to be the owner of The City Drive-In and to present this monumental addition to the public,” says Preston Gaddy, General Manager of Sandton City. “The City Drive-In is a great differentiator for the property and offers customers the opportunity to engage in a shared entertainment experience, from the safety and comfort of a controlled, socially distant space.” 

There is something for everyone, and The City Drive-In will screen a selection of films, from modern classics to new releases and everything in between. With the support of Ster-Kinekor, patrons can look forward to the likes of The Greatest Showman, Black Panther and Beauty and the Beast. The City Drive-In will re-open to the public with Mortal Kombat. Every weekend, there will be two screenings, with the matinée screening on both Saturday and Sunday being suitable for the whole family. 

Sandton City is a COVID-19 compliant, SAFE certified shopping centre, and with safety as a priority, the following measures must be adhered to while visiting The City Drive-In. Masks are compulsory and should be worn correctly at all times, outside of vehicles. Physical distancing must also be practised, with patrons standing at least two metres apart. Sanitising stations are strategically located throughout The City Drive-In and should be used frequently.

The screening schedule for The City Drive-In’s reopening weekend is as follows:

Thursday, 5 August 2021: Mortal Kombat. Starts at 19h00, ends by 20h50

Friday, 6 August 2021: Spiral. Starts at 19h00, ends by 20h30

Saturday, 7 August 2021: Jurassic World. Begins at 15h00, ends by 17h00

Tom and Jerry (2021). Starts at 19h00, ends by 20h40

Sunday, 8 August 2021: Sing. Starts at 14h00, ends by 15h50

Mortal Kombat. Starts at 18h00, ends by 19h50

Monday, 9 August 2021: The Jungle Book (Live Action), Starts at 14h00, ends by 16h00

Deadpool, Starts at 18h00, ends by 19h50

Sandton City encourages patrons to arrive early and park their cars, before purchasing or collecting their confectionery from the Ster-Kinekor concession stall or food from the Food District. Patrons are invited to sit back, relax and get comfortable in their vehicles before the main feature begins.
