Walk on, walk on. With hope in your heart and you’ll never walk alone.

Global (29 March 2020) – Josh Groban singing You’ll Never Walk Alone” in his shower is all you need to see today!

Groban (born February 27, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer, who is known for his unusually dusky tenor voice. His first four solo albums have been certified multi-platinum, and he was charted in 2007 as the number-one best selling artist in the United States, with over 22.3 million records.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone” has rapidly become the world-wide anthem to show support for and encouragement to medical staff, first responders, those impacted by, under restrictions or in quarantine because of the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic.

But the song was originally a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel. In the second act of the musical, Nettie Fowler, the cousin of the protagonist Julie Jordan, sings “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to comfort and encourage Julie when her husband, Billy Bigelow, the male lead, falls on his knife and dies after a failed robbery attempt. It is reprised in the final scene to encourage a graduation class of which Louise (Billy and Julie’s daughter) is a member. The now invisible Billy, who has been granted the chance to return to Earth for one day in order to redeem himself, watches the ceremony and is able to silently motivate the unhappy Louise to join in the song.

The song is also sung at association football clubs around the world, where it is performed by a massed chorus of supporters on matchday; this tradition developed at Liverpool F.C. after the chart success of the 1963 single of the song by the local Liverpool group Gerry and the Pacemakers.

“This one goes out to all my theater friends who are wondering when they can reach people with their brilliance again. Some have already had covid-19, some have it currently and are recovering thankfully. I can’t wait for the lights to come back up and for that beautiful community to lift our spirits and nourish our souls once again. In the meantime here is a song from one of my favorite musicals Carousel. You’ll Never Walk Alone… and it’s for The Actors Fund who are helping artists survive after all they’ve given us. But Groban also sang the full song with a complete orchestra in 2015. Watch the powerful performance here:
