A colossal mural stands freshly painted and proud as the Bokke in Bellville become immortalised. A huge reminder of pride and resilience, this artistic addition to the suburb stands out in the most epic way:
Bellville, South Africa (15 March 2024)—A colossal mural is paying tribute to the Bokke in Bellville—the crowning glory of the better.bellville.initiative.
Earlier this week, we spotlighted the incredible work that the initiative has made possible in Cape Town, with a big focus on the must-see, meaningful makeovers in the suburb’s taxi ranks.
But, the Bokke in Bellville mural on Blanckenberg Street is in a league all its own when it comes to the pride public art can inspire, and is finally complete thanks to the tireless creative work of Diana Tinkerbell.
#SpringbokMuralBellville #betterbellvilletogether
The Springbok mural is the largest in Bellville and stands tall as a reminder for the public to be proud, resilient and remain united while paying tribute to Bellville’s identity.
For Diana, the project represents a profound connection to the community.
“Creating this mural has been an incredible journey…it’s more than just paint on a wall; it’s a dialogue with the people, a reflection of our shared values and aspirations,” she shares.
Alex Jongens, the project lead for better.bellville.together notes that the mural is a visual reflection of something the community cherish.
“The Bokke holds a special place in the hearts of our community…this mural serves as a vibrant symbol of our collective pride and unity, honouring the legacy of the springboks and we invite everyone to join us in celebrating this milestone. Let’s come together to witness the power of art to unite and inspire.”—Alex Jongens.

All who visit the mural are encouraged to snap a pic with the Bokke in Bellville, spread the positive energy and the ripple effect of the initiative with the hashtags #springbokmuralbellville and #betterbellvilletogether.
