Maroon 5 headlined the Super Bowl 2019 halftime show with a racy display.
Atlanta, USA – They’re known for hits like She will be Loved, Moves Like Jagger and Sunday Morning but Maroon 5 rocked out on Sunday evening, performing on the Super Bowl halftime show.
It was their first Super Bowl halftime show appearance, and they were joined on stage by rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi.
The show itself passed without incident and saw Maroon 5 perform some of their best-known hits, including This love, Girls Like You, She Will Be Loved and Sugar but the reaction to the performance has been met with controversy after Levine stripped off his vest and threw it into the crowd.
One user described it as the, “All time Worst ever half time show”. Another described it as: “Very poor. The fact he had to strip to distract fans from the poor showing speaks volumes. I was expected a better show, dreadful.”
The verdict? It was an awesome Maroon 5 concert, but lacked the jaw-dropping spectacle that other performers have delivered in the past (remember Lady Gaga leaping from the top of the stadium to kick off her show).
Levine gave thanks for the “historic opportunity” in a note posted to Instagram after the performance.
“When we accepted the responsibility to perform at the SBHTS, I took out my pen and just wrote. Some of the words that came to me in that moment eventually made their way onto the incredible lanterns that flew high and low tonight. We thank the universe for this historic opportunity to play on the world’s biggest stage. We thank our fans for making our dreams possible. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. One Love,” he wrote.
