After being rescued from a dangerous situation with a rope around his neck, Dug is now safe, on medication for a heart murmur, and ready to give love to the right home.
Bronkhorstspruit, South Africa (29 January 2026) – Dug, an eight-year-old wire-haired terrier, was found running through traffic with a rope still around his neck. Imagine, scared, alone, and in urgent need of help. Thanks to a quick-thinking of a passerby, he was rescued and brought to safety, beginning a new chapter with Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre, where he now receives care for a serious heart condition.
Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre, a South African non-profit organisation that has been rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals since 1999. While he was finally out of danger, a vet check revealed that Dug is living with a grade 4 heart murmur. He is now on chronic medication to keep him comfortable and stable.
Despite his health challenges and whatever led to him being abandoned, Dug’s spirit remains remarkably soft. He is a dog who lives for human connection. Dug seeks out affection, leans into every cuddle and will gladly settle on a lap if invited.
Because Dug does not get along with other dogs or cats, he is looking for a very specific home. In the right environment, though, this becomes a strength rather than a limitation. As an only dog, Dug thrives. He wants to give all his love to one person or family, and he gives it generously.
Older dogs, especially those with medical needs, are often passed over. But Dug still has so much companionship, warmth and loyalty to offer. What he needs now is a calm, caring home where he can feel safe, cherished and chosen.
