What began as a Facebook page has become a national treasure. Melusi Tshabalala’s Everyday Zulu is proof that language, when shared with heart, can bridge cultures and spark laughter.
Johannesburg, South Africa (05 November 2025) – It started with a single word. Then another. And another. Before long, Melusi Tshabalala had sparked a nationwide love affair with isiZulu, one Facebook post at a time.
His Everyday Zulu project has become part of our social fabric, blending humour, honesty and heart in every update.
Back in 2017, Melusi started something we didn’t know we needed but instantly loved. Every other day, the advertising creative posts a Zulu word on his Everyday Zulu Facebook page and tells a story about it. But it’s not just about language. It’s about connection, perspective and a hilarious yet heartfelt look at modern South African life. He’s also the author of two books (with a third in the works), proving that what started as a digital diary of words and meanings has grown into a much bigger conversation about identity, culture and belonging. And on his personal profile, Melusi’s stories are infused with his off-beat humour, sharp social observations and unfiltered political commentary.
This week on Good Things with Brent Lindeque, I had the absolute joy of catching up with Melusi again, seven years after our first podcast together. It felt like sitting down with an old friend who hasn’t lost an ounce of his charm or brilliance.
It’s a chat filled with laughter, lessons, and love for language.
