Driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference, NMU second-year Interior Design students are pouring their hearts and skills into transforming the Protea Child & Youth Care Centre.
Gqeberha, South Africa (26 February 2025) – When people use their skills and resources to pour into the lives of others in need, it’s not only heartwarming but beautifully showcases the amazing power of Ubuntu to support and lift one another in a largely self-motivated world.
The second-year interior design students at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) have taken on the challenge of revamping the Protea Child & Youth Care Centre as part of their community project to make a meaningful difference.
As part of the project, student Charista shares that they have been busy designing proposals to revamp two key spaces at the children’s home in Forest Hill, Gqeberha to create a brighter and more uplifting environment for the children, many of whom are orphaned or victims of heartbreaking circumstances.
The interior revamp project was presented this week Tuesday with plans to roll out the execution from March 29 to April 6.
“This initiative is an incredible opportunity for these aspiring designers to apply their skills in a way that positively impacts our local community while creating a space that the children can enjoy for years to come,” Charista explains.
Together the students are trying to raise R15,000 to make this dream project a reality. To help support this incredible initiative and help create a more inviting and homey space for youngsters who could do with a whole lot of love and kindness, visit the project’s crowdfunding BackaBuddy page.
