Physical and mental fitness are essential parts of staying healthy and during the uncertain times of Covid-19, why not take every precaution to stay healthy.

South Africa (17 March 2020) – Winter is around the corner, and they always say, summer bodies are made in winter. With that in mind and many having to self-isolate or not being able to go to the gym due to closures, we have some helpful tips from a fitness expert as well as options for you to use at home!

DKK Fitness shares some interesting tips about the benefits of exercising and also why you should push through with your workout routine, even on those cold winter days.

With the days getting a little crisper and cooler, many of us are starting to shy away from our daily exercise and sweat session at the gym. However, there are many surprising benefits of exercising and reasons why we should especially not stop exercising during the winter months.

  • Reduces stress, depression and anxiety (we all need to be keeping positive at this given time in the world!)
  • Reduces your dementia risk
  • Assists in reducing the severity of a stroke
  • Reduces stress, depression and anxiety
  • A 20 percent decrease in cardiopulmonary fitness (the ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems to supply oxygen to skeletal muscles during sustained physical activity) within just three to eight weeks of not exercising
  • A loss of advantages you have gained and worked hard for over the period you spent exercising
  • You can go back to couch potato fitness level within ONLY three to six months of not exercising
  • Difficulty losing the winter weight gained even when you start exercising again

It’s not always easy, but keeping up your exercise routine has life-long health benefits that are well worth the sweat! While stuck at home, we came up with a few helpful solutions for you to use instead of becoming a couch potato.

There are several YouTube channels that do full workouts or yoga practices. Below are a few we found for you to try out.

If you like a high energy workout, POPSUGAR Fitness is a great way to do a quick workout that will get your heart pumping. They even do dance workouts and Zumba so you can have a good time too! You can find their full channel here.
