A group of changemakers are rewriting the narrative of crumbling infrastructure and uninspired learners in a KZN High School, with all hands on deck to transform students’ learning experience both in and out of the classroom.
Howick, South Africa (15 April 2025) – So many of our country’s schools are characterised by classrooms with cracked walls, chipped paint, old desks and outdated equipment. These conditions are often not an ideal or inviting environment for young people to learn and gain the knowledge they need to break free from the challenges they face daily.
Making a difference and building a brighter future for the learners of Nhlanhleni SP School in Mpophomeni, Love Howick has been dedicated to improving the quality of education at the underserved school both inside and outside the classroom.
Over the past year, Love Howick has introduced specialised training in Literacy, Coding, Entrepreneurship, and Environmental Studies, which has equipped teachers with tools to inspire a new generation, leading to tangible improvements in literacy levels across partner schools too!
School principals have also joined a year-long leadership development programme to drive positive change at every level of the education support system.
“One of our biggest challenges remains crumbling infrastructure: broken roofs, overgrown gardens, and inadequate access to water and electricity. But thanks to incredible local partners, we’re turning the tide,” Love Howick said.
Through joint efforts and generous sponsors, Nhlanhleni SP School was on the receiving end of freshly painted walls, repaired fixtures, and rejuvenated grounds – breathing new life into a school that really needed it and investing in young people as well as their futures.
