Honesty shops are a growing trend, South Africa has its very own honesty farm stall called the Pucketty Farm Stall in Underberg KwaZulu Natal.
Recently we posted a story about a honesty bakery in Mecca that allowed the poor to take bread when they couldn’t afford it and had people using the bakery and paying on their own without anyone to watch them. Our reader’s advised us that there is a local farm stall that has the same concept right here in South Africa.
The Pucketty farm stall was started when the owner sold up their life in big city Johannesburg and moved to Underberg over 25 years ago. It all started with a simple farm bread stall on Sunday’s, at the time there were no farm stalls around.
“Because I was so busy in the kitchen, teaching my staff to cook, (my way), there was not time to man the stall, and the honesty system was born. This has been one of our main attractions, and has continued as we have grown and moved to bigger rustic premises”
“We are well known for our unique honesty system and, let’s face it, it’s refreshing to be trusted in this day and age. A one-stop shop, in a relaxed atmosphere, where you simply write you purchases in the book provided, put your money the box and take your change”
The honesty farm stall is a big hit and there is a massive array of products to buy. Most of the items are made by Andre and the staff, they even have a tea garden that serves cooked meals.
“We are making almost ALL of the lines displayed here in the Pucketty kitchen, Andre’s making our amazing range of jams and marmalades, and our staff, Lindiwe and Happiness, turning our wonderful pickles and chutneys, quiches, pate’s, puddings, cakes, biscuits and rusks galore”
Honesty is the best policy and when left to it, most people are honest anyway. Having faith in humanity is a wonderful trait and the customers of Pucketty all agree!
