South African creativity dazzled in more ways than one at a Dior show in Paris, thanks to a Capetonian fashion brand and larger-than-life acclaimed local artworks that took centre stage.

Paris, France (26 June 2024) — South African creativity dazzled at a Dior runway show in Paris recently as the Mens Summer 2025 collection brought hats that oozed Capetonian flair to a runway blossoming with larger-than-life artworks by Karoo-raised artist Hylton Nel!

According to Paper Magazine, Dior Men director Kim Jones was inspired by Hylton (known for his limitless imagination and ceramic execution of these ideas), so much so that the new collection drew on concepts from his world.

But, the inspiration drawn from the renowned Calitzdorp artist didn’t end there. Hylton’s work actually graced the Val de Grâce runway with sculptured ceramics, creating an almost mythologically playful appeal to the collection.

On the runway, more South African creativity emerged in a different way as crochet hats by local brand Earth Age (in collaboration with hat guru Stephen Jones) accented Dior’s new collection excellently.

The short-brimmed hats and dangling beadwork certainly offered a Capetonian’s favourite look to the world of high fashion, honouring the art of crochet, slow-made, high-quality local accessories in a massive way.

As the Oranjezicht Farmer’s Market shared in putting things into perspective, Earth Age’s claim to fashion began only a few years ago on a tiny table at the market with a few samples.

Hold on to your hats folks, because South African creatives are inspiring the world!
