South Africans love our choirs… and seeing the Soweto Gospel Choir sell out theatres abroad has stirred an overwhelming sense of pride back home.

Global (09 December 2025) – The Soweto Gospel Choir has always had a way of lifting the nation’s spirit, but right now, they’re lifting the roof off theatres across North America too. Their latest tour, aptly titled Peace, is drawing crowds in city after city… and South Africans back home are absolutely glowing with pride.

There’s something indescribably moving about watching our own artists take global stages by storm and this tour is proving just how powerfully our voices travel.

Formed in 2002, the Soweto Gospel Choir was born from the idea of bringing together South Africa’s finest vocalists to celebrate our heritage, our harmonies and our hope. They started as a collective of singers from local churches in and around Soweto, blending gospel, traditional music and contemporary influences into something unmistakably South African. That sound, rich, layered, alive, has since carried them across continents and earned them multiple Grammy® and Emmy Award® honours.

South Africa has long been proud of its choirs, from school stages to international arenas. They embody our heartbeat. They remind us of who we are. They carry our voices across the ocean and we feature them often on Good Things Guy because choral music is one of our country’s greatest gifts to the world.

This morning, a Good Things Guy reader reached out and asked us to highlight the Soweto Gospel Choir’s current North American tour. So we did what we always do: we went digging. We looked up their dates. We clicked through a few venues. And what we saw left us smiling from ear to ear.

Show after show… nearly sold out.

Yes, there are seats that are still available but overwhelmingly, audiences across North America are packing these spaces to the rafters. People are queuing to hear South African freedom songs, traditional spirituals and classics reimagined with that unmistakable Soweto Gospel Choir fire. Their programme includes spirited interpretations of Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen and more. And audiences are responding with standing ovations and ticket sales that speak for themselves.

It’s one thing to know our artists are brilliant. It’s another to see theatres thousands of kilometres away filled with people who recognise it too.

The Soweto Gospel Choir are connecting hearts, bridging cultures and showing the world the power of South African harmony. And as we watch their success unfold from home, we’re reminded once again that when South Africans lift their voices, the world listens.
