Known for offering comfort and support to patients and their loved ones, the Stepping Stone Hospice in Alberton has just received a generous gift that brings more time for healing.

Alberton, South Africa (10 February 2026) – In a digital world, Stepping Stone Hospice has been gradually embracing a paperless future.

In efforts to run a more efficient system and deliver the best care to their patients, they have set the goal of being “fully paperless” by the 1st of March. A goal that has been incredibly supported by Ursula Lebuso from the Support Teacher Empowerment Trust (STET), recently donating not one or two, but 11 tablets to the hospice! More generously, this comes after her donation of five laptops to the hospice last year.

Overjoyed by the digital boost, the hospice expressed that the incredible gift will help staff save paper, cut costs, and most importantly, enhance the quality of care the staff provide to their patients.

Ursula shared why this partnership means so much to her:

“I have a soft spot for children and the elderly, so when Stepping Stone Hospice expressed a need to go paperless, it was a natural fit. We’re in the education stream of empowering teachers and students in science, technology, coding and robotics – this was perfect synergy. I feel at home here at Stepping Stone, and I believe this is the beginning of a long relationship.”

Stepping Stone Hospice’s Clinical Services Manager, Sr Margi, expressed the team’s deep gratitude, saying the new tablets will make a world of difference to how they capture and process information.

“We’re so grateful to Ursula for this generous donation. We realised we were using far too much paper, so we found a programme that allows us to work on tablets and record all our information digitally. It’s always readable and so accurate. Technology won’t replace the person-to-person care we’re known for; it’s just going to make things easier and better. If all goes well, we’ll be about 70% paperless! Our nurses will have complete patient histories right on their tablets.”

Run by compassionate and professionally trained staff, Stepping Stone Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients experiencing the impact of life-threatening illness.

The new devices will help transform how Stepping Stones works as a COHSASA-accredited hospice, empowering the team to spend less time on files and more time where it matters most: at the bedside of those they serve.
