Collen has been supplying Woza Moya at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust with his beaded goods which are sold through the social enterprise; his stuff is stunning!

Hillcrest, South Africa (02 March 2023) – Collen, a supplier to the Woza Moya & Friends Brick and Mortar store as well as its online store, has South Africans in awe of his beautiful beadwork. The shop shared images of his cake covers and egg baskets and people are loving them!

Woza Moya & Friends can be found in Hillcrest, where the shop is filled with handcrafted goods made by local artists and artisans. The shop is located at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust and is one of the flagship projects to promote empowerment.

The Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) was founded in 1990 and has spent the last three decades saving and transforming lives throughout KwaZulu-Natal’s semi-rural and disadvantaged communities.

As one of the first NGOs in South Africa to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, HACT has established a reputation for making a significant and meaningful impact on the lives of people impacted by the disease.

The trust set up a social enterprise which allows people from local KZN communities to supply beautifully crafted items to the Woza Moya shop.

The shop was established in 2002 and has worked to assist people to acquire craft skills which in turn, helps them earn an income through the sale of their crafts. This puts income back into vulnerable communities at the heart of the pandemic.

The Proudly South African crafts are sold locally and internationally. Princess Charlene even wore a hand-beaded dress from Woza Moya that weighed 8kgs.

The shop also hosts art exhibitions for the artists and crafters that have been involved in community programmes.

You can find out more about the social enterprise and shop via the website here.
