The Tinder Swindler was their enemy, and he took all their money… but now the world is helping them get it back!
Johannesburg, South Africa (09 February 2022) – The three stars from The Tinder Swindler – Ayleen, Pernilla and Cecilie – started a GoFundMe page just three days ago and have already raised R789,440 (€44,962).
What’s the worst date you’ve ever been on? Did it involve boring conversation and bad breath? Or did it involve you getting scammed out of a quarter of a million dollars? For the women of The Tinder Swindler, the bar for “bad date” maybe a little bit higher. The new Netflix documentary tells the story of a notorious conman who allegedly used the Tinder dating app to live a life of luxury while defrauding women across Europe (and it even featured South Africa).
The Tinder Swindler has taken the world by storm, but it’s the retribution after the show that is now keeping us all engrossed and even though many fake posts are being shared – like a GoFundMe page supposedly created for Simon Leviev, which is 100% NOT real – some are true, and really good news!
And the fact that the three ladies featured in the documentary have raised almost R800,000 in just three days to pay back the debt they owe… is a story to be celebrated!
The Tinder Swindler defrauded all three of these women for large sums of money, but it seems “their enemy” will not win this fight.
“The past few days have been a whirlwind, and we have been completely shocked and floored by the flood of compassion and support from everyone. The sheer love is more than we ever expected, and we appreciate you all so much.
After careful consideration and many chats, we decided to start this GoFundMe fundraiser. So many people reached out to us asking if we had one, and it hadn’t occurred to us to make one prior to this. However, we’ve spotted plenty of fakes, which makes us uneasy. We don’t want more people getting defrauded.”
The three women realise there are a thousand other worthy causes to donate to but remain forever grateful for everyone helping them get their lives back! To support their GoFundMe, click here.
Meanwhile, Leviev has been banned from all dating apps and cannot be found on Instagram. The Match Group, which owns Tinder and several popular dating apps, has announced that the conman will be barred from creating a profile on all its platforms. And the Swindler himself apparently erased all his social media after the show went viral.
We’re not sure where he will pop up next, but you can watch The Tinder Swindler on Netflix right now, or watch the trailer below:
