As the chill of winter slowly creeps in, the vulnerable could do with all the support and warmth they can get, especially the forgotten blanket tucked away in your closet.
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (24 April 2025) – The cold days and chilly nights are already fast creeping in as summer makes way for winter in Mzansi.
This means that most of us will be pulling out our knits, beanies and blankies more and more to keep toasty and warm.
But as the cold spell settles over Pietermaritzburg, many in the community will face the harsh reality of sleeping on the streets without adequate warmth – a reality that the Life Changer team strongly believes no one should endure alone.
That is why the organisation is appealing to the compassionate communities of Pietermaritzburg and the surrounding area to donate their preloved blankets to help those in need.
A blanket collecting dust in your top linen shelf in the closet, or an older one you’ve replaced for a trendier one, could provide all the warmth to a person enduring the biting cold, the relentless wind and the unforgiving elements without a warm home.
“A gently used blanket can provide not just warmth but also comfort and a sense of care to someone facing the elements,” Life Changer said.
If you’re able to contribute coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and warm clothing (especially men’s small and medium sizes), that would be an added and much appreciated help for those in need this winter.
Donations can be dropped off at 7 Levy Street, Pietermaritzburg or you can pop an email for more information at info@lifechangersa.org.
