Western Cape, South Africa (04 November 2024) – When something is so beautifully done it sticks in our minds, it only takes a spark to bring it back to life. That’s exactly what happened this weekend when Stellenbosch University Choir reposted their heartfelt rendition of “Jerusalema.”

This version of Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode’s global hit, known for its incredible harmonies, joyous spirit, and pure energy, has reminded us of the hope, unity, and sheer happiness that this song brought to millions across the world.

The Stellenbosch University Choir is one of South Africa’s oldest and most respected student choirs. Founded in 1936, the choir has earned an impressive reputation both locally and internationally for their unmatched vocal talent and moving performances. Under the direction of André van der Merwe, they’ve become known for reimagining popular songs, bringing a unique South African warmth and flair to each one.

And when they posted their version of “Jerusalema,” it wasn’t just another performance – it was an experience that resonated worldwide.

Master KG’s “Jerusalema,” sung by Nomcebo Zikode, swept across the globe like a breath of fresh air during one of the most challenging times. Released at the end of 2019, the song became a viral anthem during the pandemic, uniting people through the upbeat dance moves that somehow captured the soul of resilience and joy. People from every corner of the world joined in the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge, filling social media feeds with dance routines that showcased solidarity, diversity, and the unbreakable human spirit. The Stellenbosch University Choir’s rendition of the song first appeared online in 2021, amassing over 2 million views on YouTube, but it’s their recent repost that has us dancing all over again.

As they reposted their performance over the weekend, the university commented, “This version of Jerusalema by the Stellenbosch University Choir is just what you need on day two of exams! Turn up the volume, shuffle along, and let those endorphins flow… then it’s back to studying!”

And honestly, could there be a more perfect way to lift spirits? The stunning harmonies and radiant energy of the choir bring “Jerusalema” alive in a way that truly makes you feel good, no matter what’s happening in the world.
