Because even an asshole can save a life…
Global (26 January 2020) – The “World’s Biggest Asshole” is a two-minute film that is being called one of the funniest, and most clever adverts ever made.
The short film introduces us to Coleman Sweeney, played by Thomas Jane and narrated by Will Arnett. Coleman is seen throwing bottles of urine from trucks, stealing panties from the laundromat and showing zero respect for anyone.
But when Coleman dies, he goes from the “World’s Biggest Asshole” to a real hero!
Watch the advert below:
The short film was produced by the non-profit organisation Donate Life America (registerme.org) as an edutaining PSA ad that promotes organ donation and shows how much good this can bring to those in need no matter who the donor was in life. The short was distributed through Funny or Die and Youtube websites.
The strategy behind the campaign is to reframe a conversation most people want to ignore in order to motivate people to sign up to become an organ donor.
Donate Life has seen a drop in millennials signing the paperwork to agree to be an organ donor in recent years.
Even though the advert is aimed at the American market, one of the biggest problems we face in South Africa lies in the process of identifying and referring potential donors. South Africa already has a shortage of organ donors, and the lack of education around the situation is only making matters more difficult. It is also important to note that in South Africa, the donor’s family has the final say in whether or not organs are permitted to be donated.
The campaign is designed to act as a global wakeup call that will reinforce how easy saving a life can be while pointing out that almost anyone can do it — even a total jerk.
