A flock of colourful sheep is turning heads and sparking smiles at a retirement village. They’ll go on to become warm tomorrows for the needy after the exhibition.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (15 June 2026) – Margate Retirement Village is looking bah-bah-beautiful, after a talented group of local ladies, known as the Ramsgate Knit Twits, yarn-bombed the local hang-out.
The ladies meet once weekly to knit and crochet while raising funds for local charities. Last week, they brought their magic to the retirement village to spark smiles amongst residents.
“A splash of colour and creativity has brightened the pathway beside Café Munro – the village’s charming coffee shop where residents gather to enjoy coffee, breakfast or sweet treats.” shares Hibiscus Retirement Villages.
The colourful flock of crocheted sheep has found a temporary home along the pathway beside the village’s coffee shop, frequented by residents. Once the installation comes to an end, the yarn artworks will be unwound and turned into blankets for the needy.
“Their colourful display is designed to bring smiles to all who pass by while serving a greater purpose. Once the exhibition comes to an end, the crocheted items will be transformed into blankets for those in need.”
As per the village, the project was designed and curated by Hazel Voice who regularly encourages the Knit Twits to take on special projects, like this one.
“Special thanks go to Saprotex International, the generous yarn donors, Café Munro and Margate Retirement Village for their support in making this vibrant community project possible.” the village writes. “Adding to the convenience, ‘Wool on Wheels’ regularly visits the village, bringing a wonderful selection of wool, crochet hooks and knitting needles right to residents’ doorsteps, making it easy to stock up on supplies for their next creative project.
