The 7th Naked Bike Ride took place in Cape Town on Saturday as part of a global movement that certainly raises a few eyebrows, but also highlights the benefits of a safer, cleaner, car-free society.
Western Cape, South Africa (06 March 2016) – The bike ride, which takes place annually at different times in the Southern and Northern hemispheres, is a free clothing-optional event that, weirdly enough, is not meant to be about nudity.
While it started with a rather small following in 1999, more than 400 daring cyclists now take part to highlight the importance of caring for the planet we call home.
Those who do ride along the Sea Point promenade and through the Cape Town City centre are imaginative and creative in their appearance, centred on the au natural birthday suite and human-powered transport of course.
While some might have been shocked and horrified to be confronted with juggling bits, everything from bicycles, scooters, skateboards and inline skates could also be seen on the day – in the name of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world.
Take a look at those who dared to go bare – all we can say is well done, folks, well done!
The World Naked Bike Ride in Australia took place last weekend, while the Northern Hemisphere event is set to take place on Saturday, 11 June 2016.
