‘Brothers for Life’ have taken on the hot topic of Rape prevention. They believe it stops with men and created an advert to spread the strong message.
The topic of rape prevention has always been a tricky one. Mostly because the people made to feel responsible for preventing rape are the victims. Anti-rape campaigns generally target the victim and encourage them to come forward and make their voices heard. ‘Brothers for Life’ have created a new campaign that urges men to stop raping women.
Brothers for Life is an organisation that promotes positive male norms. They focus on healthy lifestyle development, meaning they encourage men to be active in getting tested for HIV and STD’s, using protection and reducing their amount of sexual partners.
They also task men to combat violence against women within their communities. The organisation advises men where to get help if needed.
Through research it was discovered that, in many instances, rapists often had violent childhoods and have either been victims of abuse themselves or have witnessed abuse being inflicted on others.
The campaign was designed to address men with compassion while making it clear that they are responsible for their actions. Men shouldn’t let their past dictate who they become in the future. The campaign is a step in the right direction.
