Weekend

If you are always counting down to Friday, maybe it’s time to ask what you’re really waiting for, because life’s too short to only enjoy two days out of seven.

South Africa (13 October 2025) – Sometimes, we forget that life is so much more than Saturday and Sunday. Too many people are guilty of it. Counting down to Friday like it’s the only day that truly matters. And sometimes, to break this cycle takes some of the people closest to us to point out just how often we say, “Only two more days until the weekend.”

We build our lives around the weekend. Fridays feel like freedom, Saturdays are for fun, and Sundays for recovery (maybe a dread about Monday). But what about the rest of the week? Why can’t Tuesday feel exciting? Why can’t Wednesday be just as enjoyable?

We started living on pause from Monday to Thursday. Saving our happiness for the weekend. But life doesn’t work that way.

When you’re always waiting for Friday, you’re wishing away more than half your week, and that’s surviving on autopilot. This isn’t about abandoning responsibilities or ignoring work. It’s about realising that life is not divided into weekdays and weekends.

Here are a few ways to start living like every day counts because it really does.

1. Make midweek plans.

Don’t wait for Friday to unwind. Schedule a coffee catch-up or quick dinner midweek. Even a random Tuesday night out can do wonders for your mood.

2. Romanticise the mundane.

Light a candle, play your favourite playlist, or cook your go-to comfort meal on a Monday.

3. Redefine “rest.”

Rest isn’t just sleeping in on Sundays. It’s taking a walk, reading a book, or try logging off early.

4. Celebrate small wins.

You do not need a big reason to treat yourself.

5. Change how you talk about Mondays.

Instead of treating Monday like a punishment, see it as a reset. A new start, not a burden.

6. Find something to look forward to every day.

Whether it’s your morning coffee, a gym session, or a TV episode, small joys make weekdays worth waking up for.
