Watching the looting has broken hearts around the world, but there are South Africans that are uniting to help clean up after the chaos.
South Africa (13 July 2021) – We all sat devastated watching the looting and destruction happening in South Africa over the weekend and the escalating looting that is now happening in parts of South Africa.
We cry for our country but encourage everyone to stay calm and to listen to their local authorities as well as to abide by all laws.
With the chaos, fear and mayhem, it can feel very overwhelming, but as we always say, in times of tragedy, look for the helpers!
One such helper Emelda Masango, took to Facebook this morning to share how she won’t be going back to a job today, but she wanted to do something to help, so has volunteered her time to help clean up the looted shopping centres.
From sweeping up broken glass to collecting trolleys and more. Emelda has inspired thousands of South Africans on the group “I Know A Guy”.
People have started sharing which areas they live in and which days they are free to go assist in cleaning everything up.
Times are so tough right now, but seeing these individuals wishing to help, restores one’s faith in humanity. If you would like to get involved, you can join the conversation here.
Edit: A group has also been created which you can join here.

Residents of Philippi came together to clean the Browns Farm library, community hall, and the ward councillor’s office, all of which had been severely damaged during the looting.
