Massimo’s stuck by the community throughout the lockdown, raising over R220k to make sure everyone had access to food; now they have donated 100 pizzas too!
Hout Bay, South Africa (06 July 2020) – Massimo’s – a pizzeria in the Western Cape – set the goal to raise R150,000, and they exceeded the goal! Thanks to their successful pay it forward campaign, they recently delivered 100 pizzas the community after a massive fire.
Massimo’s has the “best pizza in Africa” and even better hearts! Whenever there is a need, Massimo and his team come up with a way to give back. Massimo and Tracy opened the Italian restaurant in 2009. They are incredibly passionate about food, their clients and South Africa!
They started a “pay-it-forward” campaign at the beginning of 2015 to make it easier for the Hout Bay community to give back. While they were open, Massimo’s clients could buy one or more R10 ‘virtual’ slices of pizza, and for every six slices sold, Massimo’s would deliver an entire pizza to a local charity or institution.
Like every business, they were forced to close their doors during this lockdown. That wouldn’t stop Massimo from paying it forward.
The team turned to BackaBuddy, a proudly South African crowdfunding platform, to raise money to assist the community of Hout Bay. They set a goal to raise R150,000.00 and to date, they have raised R 225 201.40.
They have used the money to feed the local community throughout the lockdown. Last night, a fire broke out in Imizamo Yethu leaving many families homeless once again. The community has faced many heartbreaking fires over the years.
When Massimo’s heard of the fire, they quickly rallied! Together with other organisarions, food was delivered and people started trying to rebuild their lives.
