A new wheelchair for Ouma was made possible thanks to bottle-top collections.
Gauteng, South Africa (26 February 2025) — Welcoming a new wheelchair for Ouma made one family enormously grateful recently.
Made possible thanks to bottle top collections and Tops & Tags for Wheelchairs, the new wheelchair for Ouma marks the latest wheelchair that the non-profit organisation has been able to donate.
True to the sentiment that many small things can add up to make big doses of change with the right intentions, Tops & Tags for Wheelchairs continues to shine as an example of what this looks like in action.
It’s a process that works fairly simply: collect bottle tops you’d typically through away, share them with Tops & Tags, and once enough bottle tops have been collected in weight, they can be exchanged for a wheelchair that’ll make a world of difference to someone who needs it.
Thanks to the organisation and years of hard work, many happy handovers have been made possible, with different communities getting involved from all corners of Gauteng and from all walks of life. School-goers, friends, and eco-champions alike have all come to the party time and time again with collections, and as the years go on, so does the momentum.
The new wheelchair for Ouma brings the number of wheelchairs made possible to 169!
“Ouma was so grateful for her wheelchair, she will now be able to go to church again,” Tops and Tags shared, adding that Ouma was also gifted a knee blanket from the Knit and Natter crew.
Benoni-based readers inspired to jump on the bottle top bandwagon can now easily access initiatives like this through Clean Projects’ new heart-shaped collection station!
