Mission accomplished! The blazing efforts of this firefighting duo who ran the Two Oceans Half Marathon in their uniforms have paid off. Thanks to them, a fortune was raised for an amazing cause.

Cape Town, South Africa (26 April, 2023) — Cape Town firefighting duo Jermaine Carelse and Renaldo Duncan did something incredible recently beyond their daily life-saving duties.

The pair teamed up to tackle the Two Oceans Half Marathon in their firefighting uniforms; winning crowds and hearts around the country.

Now, their efforts have paid off significantly for an organisation dedicated to keeping communities safe.

Thanks to their marathon moment, the two raised over R180 000 for the cause at the end of their finish line, and the Volunteer Wildfire Services couldn’t be more grateful that these heroes understood the assignment the way they did.

“We are amazed and honoured that our friends and colleagues at the City’s Fire and Rescue Service would take on such an endeavour to raise awareness to raise funds for us. We are so grateful to these two amazing men and dedicated firefighters.

‘We rely solely on the donations from the public and corporates to keep our organisation going, so all the funds raised will go towards maintenance and operational costs.” — Volunteer Wildfire Services CEO, Claire Lötter.

Thanks to the men in their uniforms, volunteers will be able to continue the heroic work they do.

“The goodwill and generosity that this initiative sparked has been incredible. I want to reiterate my sincere thanks to Jermaine and Renaldo for taking this on. You are great ambassadors for the City, and we are incredibly proud of the achievement. To the public who opened their pockets and their hearts to the Volunteer Wildfire Service – thank you. The contributions will no doubt go a long way in helping to keep these brave and selfless volunteer firefighters on the frontlines when we need it the most.”— Mayco Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
