The power of a Facebook share reunited a Durban man with his long-lost loved ones!

Durban, South Africa (12 October 2026) – Several years ago, Hendrik Frederik Nortman made his way to Durban with the hopes of finding a job. Sadly, he fell on hard times and ended up on the street, without a home. With no means of reconnecting with his family, he held onto the hope of it happening one day.

That hope was enough. It rallied an army that eventually led him to find them again.

Missing Person South Africa published his story recently, appealing to the public for any assistance that could help find Hendrik’s family. After followers engaged with and shared the post, someone came forward!

“After Missing Person South Africa published his story and appealed for assistance, one of our followers came forward with information that helped locate his relatives. That information led to a breakthrough.” the organisation wrote.

According to Jeanette Fouche Dreyer, who has been helping Hendrik search for his family, someone saw the organisation’s appeal and shared a contact number that helped her reach one of his sisters.

“His family has now been able to communicate with him through Jeanette.” the organisation adds. “Even more encouraging, arrangements are being made for Hendrik to return home, where he is expected to receive appropriate medical care and live in a safe, supportive environment.”

A man who had gone missing from his family’s world so many years ago, has found them again. The organisation says that success goes to its followers, who ultimately helped them reconnect.

“Every time you share a missing-person appeal, you help it reach people we might never reach on our own.” Missing Person SA shares. “Every time you provide genuine information, you create another opportunity for a family to find answers. And sometimes, as in Hendrik’s case, one follower with the right information can change someone’s life.”

The organisation thanked every person who came forward, shared, and offered prayers and encouragement. Jeanette, whose compassion and determination helped guide Hendrik back to his loved ones, was recognised too.

“He travelled to Durban hoping to find employment but eventually found himself living on the streets. Despite spending years away from his loved ones, he never gave up hope of reconnecting with them. Today, thanks to the combined efforts of Jeanette, Missing Person South Africa and our caring followers, that hope is becoming a reality.” it shared “To our followers, please never underestimate the importance of sharing a missing-person appeal. You may think you are simply sharing a Facebook post, but that post could reach the one person who has the information a family desperately needs.”

Never underestimate the power of a Facebook share!
