The Amy Foundation, a beacon of hope for countless young people, offered Simamkele a hand-up through its Youth Skills Development Programme, helping him realise his dreams of becoming a successful caterer.

Cape Town, South Africa (29 October 2024)The Amy Foundation is in the wholesome business of making dreams come true and helping young people thrive despite the odds stacked against them.

A recent beneficiary of the nonprofit’s incredible youth empowerment initiatives was 22-year-old Simamkele, whose life has taken a turn for the better after joining the Amy Foundation in January this year.

Having been stuck in a dead-end part-time job with the burning desire to pursue a career in the hospitality industry, Simamkele didn’t think twice about signing up for the Youth Skills Development (YSD) programmes when he learned about how it would provide the stepping stone towards his ultimate goal of having a fulfilling career in the hospitality industry.

“I was working part-time as a promoter for an agency, but it wasn’t giving me the support I needed. I needed something that would push me to achieve my dreams.

“The hospitality program at the Amy Foundation played such a big role in shaping who I am today. The changes I experienced felt like magic. I became more focused, resilient, and determined to achieve my goals,” the driven young man shared.

He recently landed an internship at one of Cape Town’s leading hotels, which will eventually lead to a permanent job.

“Currently, I’m working as a waiter, and I’m eager to keep growing and upgrading my skills in the industry.

“One day, I dream of starting my own catering business and travelling the world to gain more experience,” an aspirant Simamkele shared.

He added that the Amy Foundation helped him find his path and meaning in life.

“I’m grateful for the Amy family and for all the opportunities that have helped me become who I am today.”
