With heart and courage, Christy Strever is stepping up to support young cancer warriors by completely shaving her head after growing it for six years.

Johannesburg, South Africa (02 August 2024) – Christy Strever is taking a bold stand against childhood cancer by committing to bravely shaving her head to support young girls battling the disease.

Sharing her passion for cancer awareness, Christy shared a heartwarming post, pledging to shave off her hair to make wigs for little girls who have lost theirs through chemo.

Cancer can be a very isolating and dreadful journey. Many can attest to this, whether as a survivor or someone who has had a diagnosed loved one. By standing in unity, like Christy, we can create a sense of community and belonging, helping women feel connected and understood.

No stranger to The Good Things Guy, Christy and her ever-so-colourful personality have made quite an impression online through her creativity, passion and out-of-this-world images, which are sure to grab anyone’s attention – even Gordon Ramsay.

In support of those battling the dreadful disease, Christy made a conscious decision to shave her hair off a few years ago and has committed to do so once again this month.

She will also be raising funds and awareness for Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer to help support families with their medical bills through her Back-a-Buddy campaign.

Speaking to The Good Things Guy about her worthy cause, Christy said that this was her way of helping raise funds and awareness for children with cancer.

“Every single one of us knows someone who is affected by this disease. It has a devastating impact on not just the patient but also family and friends. No one likes to see their loved one just pushing through to survive each day. The money raised will help bring some form of relief to families who are struggling to keep up with the medical bills of chemo and medication,” shared Christy, who understands how important hair is to women.

Christy admits that the decision to shave her hair off is not an easy one, especially after being told she looks prettier with her hair; however, raising awareness for an important cause makes it all worth it.

“After experiencing this first-hand, it really hurt me how I was treated. After the first time I shaved my hair off I was called names by people I had never met. I was labelled by those who didn’t understand, and I ended up going through a depression because of it.

“But my hair will grow back! Honestly, having a 0 (bald head) is incredibly liberating, and I shouldn’t be called brave for doing it. The children who are fighting a daily battle to survive are the brave ones.”

Christy has started counting down toward her ‘big chop,’ which will take place at SLOPS on 14 September from 2 to 4 pm.

She encourages her fellow South Africans to play their part in helping the children who are fighting to survive another day by donating to Cupcakes of Hope through her campaign.
