From as young as three, being a ballerina wasn’t just a fantasy for Abigail, but a passion that would become her life’s purpose. Now, her dream of gracing the world stage is within reach after being selected to represent South Africa at the 2025 Dance World Cup Finals in Spain!

Boksburg, South Africa (15 April 2025) – Pirouetting on her tippy toes, donned in stunning leotards and whimsical tutus as she graces audiences with her talent and poise is what Abigail Sandwell lives for!

The classical ballet dancer began dancing when she was just three years old, laying the foundation of what would become her way of life.

Despite injuries and setbacks, Abigail has achieved several accolades over the years including Excellence at every Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) exam, multiple gold awards at the East Rand Dance Festival, a spot with the Youth Russian Ballet company, a part in the 2023 Sleeping Beauty production, and the lead role as the Jewel Fairy in 2025.

This ballerina has also represented South Africa internationally at the 2021 Online Dance World Cup Finals and this year, hopes to fly her country’s flag high after being selected to represent at the 2025 Dance World Cup Finals in Spain!

Needless to say, this is a dream come true for the decorated dancer who hopes to share her story and talent with the world.

However, the hefty R150,000 cost of the trip stands in the way of her realising her dream.

“My family do not have the means to cover these costs.”

Undeterred, Abigail has set up a BackaBuddy crowdfunding page with the hope that it will reach the hearts of anyone who would be willing to help her shine in Spain.

“Your support would mean the world to me. By contributing, you’re not just helping fund a trip—you’re helping a young dancer reach her dream, tell her story through dance, and proudly represent South Africa on an international stage,” Abigail appeals.
