Sometimes to get through something difficult, you need a friend to lean on; this young man struggling with nerves during his school speech got some much-needed support from his classmate.

Mbombela, South Africa (20 March 2023) – Harshil Mitha was working on a project for TwoRedPens Agency at Laerskool Laeveld in Mbombela when he captured a heart-melting moment. He created a video highlighting a young man’s kindness during a classmate’s speech, which has moved many to tears, showing all the hope we can have in South Africa when we have a friend by our side.

Public speaking is a dreaded part of school; from reading out loud to doing orals and other presentations. Many of us can remember the sheer anxiety of having to face a class full of our peers and wishing for the moment to be over. How that anxiety affected us was different for each student; some would stumble over the reading material, some would avoid eye contact, some would giggle the whole way and some would read so fast a minute became mere seconds.

Imagine you had a friend to stand by you through that moment, giving you the courage to forge forward and do the assigned work. That is exactly what Harshil managed to capture while at the school.

“I was on assignment at Laerskool Laeveld capturing some content for their marketing portfolio and I couldn’t help but not share this moment with everyone.

It was a moment where these students from Laerskool Laeveld reminded me that there is a future and there is hope for our country, our nation, our people and for us as individuals.

Investing in our youth, not only financially, but spiritually, investing time to teach and lead. Developing their characters to be future leaders that we are proud of. That’s what it’s all about!

I am truly proudly South African.” – Harshil Mitha

Take a look at the moment below. It brought tears to our eyes.
