Michelle Tayler-Smith started a crowdfund to support her favourite small business, “Jack’s Place”, a coffee shop in Claremont, to get his business on the move.
Cape Town, South Africa (02 December 2021) – Jack Umba runs “Jack’s Place (Cafe Jess)” in Claremont, and his dream is to get his business to the next level. With the pandemic, he has struggled to make it happen. Michelle Tayler-Smith was keen to make his dream a reality, so she set up a crowdfund to purchase him a coffee van.
Michelle says that Jack is a warm and friendly person with traits of kindness and care. It is this friendliness that has made his business such a success. He is also a massive help within his community, keeping active within the neighbourhood watch.
“Kindness and care are traits that not all people possess, however, Jack’s incredibly warm and friendly personality is the reason why his business has succeeded so far, and why his customers are so loyal, returning week after week. Not only does Jack make delicious coffee and pancakes, but he is also an active member of the Harlyn community watch and does regular patrols in the area.”
Jack hopes to take his coffee shop to markets, schooling events, and festivals. It will turn his business into a brand that can create more jobs.
“The reason for our campaign is to raise funds which will enable Jack to expand his business by purchasing a mobile coffee van, so that he is able to deliver his delicious coffees far and wide, as well as make a name for himself at markets, selling coffee at schools in the Southern Suburbs, and at pop-up markets and functions in Cape Town. Jack has had a tough 2 years financially, and doesn’t have the funds to buy the van himself.
Jack currently does his coffee deliveries to customers in the Claremont and Harfield area on his bicycle, however, a mobile coffee van would enable a larger catchment area of customers.”
Michelle set the goal to raise R80,000, which will cover the cost of the coffee van, a fridge, a coffee machine as well as modifications to get the van on the road. If they raise more than that, the money will be used to install wifi at his coffee shop for customers as well as upgrading the seating and tables.
“Any donations, no matter how small will be appreciated & will be used to make this dream a reality. Go & meet the man yourself at Jack’s Place, 88 Iman Haron Road (next to Curtain Corner)”
