Guy Clark and his fiance Kate Lauda met a homeless person with a dog; they offered to help feed and rehome the dog only to discover it was micro-chipped.

Cape Town, South Africa (09 March 2022) – Stories of missing animals being found and reunited with their families are some of our favourites. Thanks to Guy Clark and his fiance Kate Lauda, we have another heartwarming story to share.

Guy had come across a homeless woman in a park in Milnerton with a chained dog and decided to help her. He went to get some dog food, and while the dog ate, they chatted about the dog. After some time, she shared that she was only looking after the dog, but it wasn’t hers.

Guy managed to get her to agree to hand the dog over to him so he could help rehome it. Guy asked Kate for help, and she quickly got on the phone to find an organisation that was prepared to take the dog. After some time, they were able to get the dog collected by Rusty’s Rescues.

They were so relieved to have helped but little did they know just how much help! Guy and Kate are parents to two rescues, Enzo the Boxer/Pit mix and Jack the Africanis.

A few hours later, Rusty’s Rescues called the couple to advise them that the dog was scanned for a micro-chip, and it came up with the full details of an owner.

Nearly a year to the date earlier, a family faced utter heartache when their dogs got out their front gate. Pumza Goddiva Dyani took to her community Facebook group on the 15th of March 2021, asking for help to find her missing dog named Midnight in Goodwood.

She explained that they had new tenants who accidentally let the dogs out. Her two dogs bolted, and they had only found the brother by the end of the day. She asked for people to keep an eye out and shared that Midnight was micro-chipped but was not wearing a collar. The search went cold as nobody had come forward with the dog. That is until Guy and Kate found her.

We caught up with Kate to ask about how it felt knowing they had helped reunite Midnight with her family.

“Aw it was the best feeling ever! And we were just happy. Guy is impulsive, in a great way, as he was the one saying we should go over to the tent and speak to the lady and find out what the situation is with the chained up puppy and bring her food. And I’m more the strategic one who was saying, let me call different rescue centres and find out what the best way forward is. So we both did our bit in reuniting them, each in our own ways but together.

Seeing we have two dogs and only imagining how it would be for us losing one… we’d be devastated. When we found out Midnight had been missing for a year, that was unbelievable and seeing how happy the lil girl and her parents were… it was very emotional for everybody there.” – Kate Lauda

Guy shared a beautiful video of Pumza being reunited with her missing dog Midnight; take a look below, but grab a tissue before you do!
